DESTINY

While you are dealing the cards, your face is stoney and noble,
You observe your victim like a sphynx.
I escape to the casino table,
Because I don’t have much left,
Just an an old family heirloom ring
And very little hope
That I shall avoid seeing you in the croupier’s uniform,
Or the habit of a butler
Who is serving death.

My place is at the casino table.
The emptier my pockets,
The hungrier my passion.
I’ve heard the restless voice of a gambler:
“Perhaps I shall once manage
To deceive destiny… Perhaps…”
And the voice vanishes in the echo of many a gambler’s sigh.

You once again decided to scourge me,
Your shiny hand throws the white ball.
Who knows whose bones this white ball was made of,
This ball that dances so seductively
In front of the inebriated man’s eyes?
Will my bones end up
In its white interior tomorrow?

It didn’t take you long, destiny,
To throw me out into the street
With an empty wallet and a vacant gaze.
Now I stare into this empty night,
And death awaits below the old oak tree
That has accusingly raised its bare branches
Into this empty night.
Do not wear the black butler’s suit, destiny,
Let death wait.

I know you will comply, destiny,
You don’t like those who play it safe,
Because there is me in you,
And there is you in me.
Throw another one, destiny!

New Artist Spotlight: Jeremy Raglin

“My artwork is a mix of bright colors, a celebration of life and a statement of who I am as a person. I see subject matter for artwork everywhere and I enjoy creating new artwork from what I see including everyday objects that are around my house, books that I’ve read or ideas that I’ve thought of while on road trips.

I believe that life is beautiful and I try to create artwork based on the beauty that I see around me. I enjoy creating artwork using oil pastel and pencil on paper. I also paint with oils on canvas when I have space to paint.

Like other artists who have come before me I constantly feel the urge to create art every day. I feel like I’ve wasted my day if I don’t get a chance to work on my artwork before going to bed at night. Over the last twenty years of my life my artwork has been my constant companion through all major phases of my life including when I got married and started a family. I’m blessed to have a wife who loves and supports my artwork plus children who are inspired to draw at the table when they see their daddy working on his art.

My current artwork encompasses a wide variety of subject matter from still life, landscape, underwater scenes to surreal artwork. I’m always trying to grow as an artist; I believe that art is a living thing that should always be changing and never allowed to grow stagnate. As an artist I always look forward to being challenged and learning from those challenges; I know that my artwork will grow and I will be able to help others too.” -Jeremy Raglin

Silver Bullet Numbing

 Nocturnal or diurnal,

Alert in the morning

Or widest awake at night,

Which one fits best?

The early person test

Is the easiest performed,

Drink through the night

And notice the rising time.

If you get up and go out,

Despite the headache,

The glorious inner sores,

And the cold of a fresh day,

Then you are in your habitat,

Wound up for morning,

Be careful though and stay

Away from heavy machinery

A moment in Black History: “The Red Tails”

A moment in Black History: “The Red Tails”

I had the privilege of seeing the Movie entitled “Red Tails”, which served to be an accurate depiction of the story of the Tuskegee Airmen. The Tuskegee Airmen played a major part within the Army Air Corps during World War II. These courageous men, also known as the “Those guys with the Red Tails”, proved to be monumentally successful in many missions. Their contributions left a legacy that paved the way for African Americans being a part of the U.S. Army Air Corps during a time of Jim Crow Laws and racial segregation.

"The Red Tails"

The accomplishments of the Tuskegee Airmen included maintaining a near excellent record while protecting U.S. bombers. It has been said that only twenty five men were lost out of many hundreds of missions. This distinguished group of gentleman also managed to accumulate nearly one hundred and fifty Distinguished Flying Crosses. By proving to be successful throughout World War II, by 1948 the Tuskegee Airmen became extremely sought after in the U.S. Air Force. Opportunities of abundance began to become available for the airmen including teaching in various flight schools. In addition to added opportunities to the U.S. Air force, the Tuskegee Airmen played a major role in aviation development that occurred after WWII.

Even in this present day, the accomplishments, great efforts, and diligent hard work of the Tuskegee Airmen (“The Red Tails”), continues to open doors while also generating opportunities within the Air force for African Americans.

 You are Mine

In my silence,
You heard me screaming.
Through my smiles,
You saw my tears.
kissed my lips,
now I can’t stop dreaming.
My dreadful life
Is now worth living.
This is it!
It is Love
Love is you
You are mine.

New Book Feature: “Wisdom From A Turtle” by Michael McWilliamson

New Book Feature: “Wisdom From A Turtle” by Michael McWilliamson

“I am a thirty-eight-year-old college dropout and convicted felon. I was born and raised in Maryland, where I still live today and sell junk on eBay for a living. I spend my free time playing video games, doing mediocre sketch art, playing guitar (badly), and thinking deep thoughts.

Wisdom From a Turtle

Since any idiot can spit out a book, let me just say that it is this idiot’s hope that just one single person will read this and make a real and spiritual change to his or her life. Despite the random and sometimes crude humor in this book, I hope one or more persons will learn through my testimonial message that Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the light to a better life and a better eternity.” -Michael McWilliamson
